The Kujiweza Healing Arts Institute specializes in teaching the art of internal healing exercise for senior citizens. Yoga strengthens and improves the physical body, Tai Chi relaxes and increases energy of the mind and body and Chi Kung builds the connection with the inner life force. Upon completion of each course of practice, the student should be able to demonstrate the external form, explain the internal aspects, and answer basic questions about the history, structure, and purpose of the practice. The written study questions will be submitted for faculty review and the required reading list be completed prior to certification.
Tai Chi: The purpose of Tai Chi is to strengthen the body and calm the emotions. It loosens joints, quiets and calms the nerves and improves digestion. In addition, it benefits the heart, circulatory and respiratory systems and improves the skin.

Yang Style Short Tai Chi Forms

The Yang Style is the style practiced by most people. Our Older Adult Tai Chi Instructor training programs include the 8, 18 and 24 forms. All the movements of these forms are selected from the 108 form. These short forms were created and condensed from the traditional Yang Style Long Form. It was shortened for several reasons. (1) It could be learned in a shorter period of time and (2) to create a form that could be practiced by people with today’s busy lifestyle and a form that allows those with health challenges to gain the benefits that Tai Chi has to offer

Chi Kung

Chi Kung is a way of circulating Chi (life force) through the body to improve all systems and body functions. The Chi Kung exercises are performed to keep the body’s energy in a steady flow in order to prevent illness and to positively affect chronic disorders.

Kujiweza Healing Arts Institute Chi Kung course offers a variety of active and passive forms of Chi Kung. The course combines movement and spiritual practices to create a whole body tonic for health and well-being. The student chooses the course of study from the curriculum list and is encouraged to study at his or her own pace.

It is recommended the student spend as much time as possible with the faculty attending normally scheduled classes and workshops. Students will get periodic verbal feedback in the teaching process. It is also recommended the student keep a journal of practice, insights, and questions.

Restorative Yoga:

Yoga is one of the most powerful tools for self-development and self-realization. The Kujiweza Restorative Yoga Course will take a philosophical look at the 8 limbs of yoga and review the different styles of Yoga. Yoga practice creates a strong mind, peaceful spirit, healthy body and can often cure life threatening diseases. This course will focus on Physical Postures, Breath Control and Meditation. Standing, Sitting, Supine, Prone and Inverted Asanas will be covered.

Indoor/Outdoor Walking:

Walking is the simplest and most effective way to exercise. OAFI will learn how to teach older adults how to walk their way to health. Course teaches how to make a physical assessment of participant and to design a program based on the findings. Course provides training to determine frequency, intensity and duration of walking for groups and individuals. OAFI will learn how to training older adults with a wide range of chronic ailments. Course covers how to use walking to manage weight and how to create and maintain performance log. Walking can help people maintain a healthy weight and prevent chronic illness like heart disease. It will help strengthen bones, improve balance and coordination and lift mood and attitude.

Chair Exercise: – (Yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Pilates, Zumba, Aerobics):

Chair exercise allows people to work around their physical limitations and enjoy the benefits of exercise. OAFI will learn how to teach older adults how exercise their way to health while seated on a chair. Course teaches how to conduct physical assessment of participant and to design a program based on the findings. OAFI will learn how to train older adults with a wide range of chronic ailments. Course covers how to use chair exercise to perform Tai Chi, Yoga and all other formats. OAFI will learn how to use chair exercise to raise overall fitness level and to help strengthen bones, improve balance and coordination and lift mood and attitude.
OAFI learn how to use chair exercise in all of the above formats specifically to serve senior citizens or people with limited mobility or those who prefer to exercise seated. Strength & Flexibility:

OAFI will learn how to designed exercise programs to help seniors improve overall body strength and flexibility. This course is a total body strength and flexibility improvement program. OAFI will learn how to teach older adults build strength and flexibility to help maintain physical functions. Course teaches how to make a physical assessment of participant and to design a program based on the findings. Course provides training to determine frequency, intensity and duration of strength and flexibility sessions. OAFI will learn to training older adults with a wide range of chronic ailments.

Meditation:

Meditation is powerful tool that offers many benefits to older adults to help them get control of thoughts that constantly flash through the mind. Negative thoughts of worry, anger, fear all find their way into the mind often leading to anxiety and depression and causing stress. OAFI will learn how to teach older adults how to use meditation to gain instant relief of stress, mental tension and worries. OAFI will learn how to use breathing techniques and other techniques to relax the body mind and spirit. In this class OAFI will learn how to apply meditation techniques to balance participant’s minds and to bring freedom, peace and harmony into their lives.
